Saturday night was the Second Annual Executive Women International “Hot Heels Fashion Show”. To give you a little background on this organization, EWI was established in California in 1938 when Lucille Johnson Perkins recognized the importance and potential of an association of key women working with their executives to promote their firms and improve their community. The Grande Prairie Chapter was chartered in June of 2009 only 1 year after beginning the process of establishing a group in Grande Prairie. With the help of some motivated members, Grande Prairie ended the year with over 40 member firms.
What are they raising money for?? They have 2 scholarships – ASSIST (Adults in transition) and EWSIP ( for Grade 11 students). This year they want to add a new local EWI of GP Scholarship that is needs based to college students. EWI also has literacy initiatives, where they are supporting the Family Literacy groups in the City and County, as well as donating over 150 books and have read to over 800 Grade 2 students at their Reading Rally in 2010. 75% of the funds raised will go to these 2 initiatives.
So at the show many local businesses had their wares on display on the runway but more importantly, 5 local upcoming designers had the opportunity to showcase their fantastic designs. Those designs were judged by an esteemed panel of judges which was followed up with the designers having to answer some tough questions about their work. In the end, the amazing young and talented Emily (Daughter of Jennifer Metituk) won first place which means she will be showing her fashions at the Western Canada Fashion Week this fall. Second place won a photo session with Suzanne Saigmeister Photography and third received a $500 gift certificate to Fabricland.
So without further ado here is a few images from this amazing evening!
